This is Rayonix{moo}'s first Quake 2 map.  I can't say it's his first Quake map because he did design a single arena style map for classic Quake long ago when we used to spend hours making lightning rods out of each other.  But that's another story, and all you classic Quakers can grab that map here.

The topic at hand is Borg Vacation.  Back when The Longest Three Feet was in its beta stages (oh, those were a long four months phbbt!) I gave Rayonix the mapping bug and this was the result.

The map consists of two cubes (hence the first part of the name) placed above and below each other respectively containing crates, platforms and ramps.  These cubes are also - of course - filled with instruments of death and destruction (especially grenades - he loves those, and is darned good with 'em too! Smile though your heart is aching...).  Now comes the good part.  The cubes have transparent-glass floors and ceilings allowing you to see through to the room you're not currently fragging in.  This allows you to easily find a party you'd like to drop in on - or stay away from - in the other cube.

To spice things up, Rayonix placed a Q2 Black Hole entity between the cubes and added a few custom textures from the ChaosDM mod.  In fact, this map was designed specifically for ChaosDM, but a sad bit of miscommunication Awww, shucks kept him from using the official ChaosDM naming convention (i.e. chaosdm_borg_vac).  Don't worry though, ChaosDM maps are completely compatible with regular Q2.  Just be aware that if some of the weapon choices and placement seem strange, it's because those weapons become something different in the Chaos mod.

Borg Vacation is stocked with the Shotgun, Machine Gun, Grenades, Grenade Launcher, Rocket Launcher, Hyper Blaster, Rail Gun, and - perched high on a double ramp - the dreaded BFG.  Also present are the Quad, various forms of Armor and Health, and Ammo for all but the Shotgun.   Those who play ChaosDM are aware that the Shotgun is replaced by the Bastard Broadsword and Chainsaw, and the Machine Gun is the Crossbow in the mod.  Other ChaosDM weapons available on this map include both Flash and Poison Grenades, the Proxy Grenade Launcher, Homing Missile Launcher, Buzzblade Launcher, Machine Gun and Rocket Launching Defense Turrets, and the incredible Gravity Vortex.
