CONTACT LINK UPDATED: YES, I'M ALIVE - At long last, I've finally gotten back into the swing of things and updated this page. The only change thus far is my e-mail address, which is now correct. My next project is to dig up my old Quark map files and begin finishing what I've started.

LINKS PAGE UPDATED - Replaced
the text links with graphics on the links page (very pretty
).
Many of the links are new or have been changed, so click away.

THE LONGEST THREE FEET
(QUAKE 2 ) MAP
DESCRIPTION COMPLETE -
Finally
finished with the page showcasing my The Longest Yard (Quake ]I[)
conversion. This is my first Quake 2 map, and the reason Intron Substation
exists. The effort has earned an honorable mention at Planetquake's
Level of the Week, and is in the Top 10 most downloaded Q2 Deathmatch maps on
Fileplanet. So click on the headline to check out my description, view
some pics, and maybe even download the map for some high-flying, frag-o-licious
action.

SEXY SUSPENSION MAP
DESCRIPTION COMPLETE -
Finished
the description for Rayonix{moo}'s Quake 2 map SexY SuspensionN. The map
is great for 1 on 1, or a small crowd that likes lots of indirect frags.
Check out the map description and screenshots by clicking on the headline
as usual.

NEAR
MISSION EXTENDED -
Yesterday,
while couples across the United States were getting all mushy, the press
announced that the NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft (pictured at left) has touched down
on asteroid Eros (named after the Grecian Cupid - Eros, son of Aphrodite -
goddess of love and beauty). This is another first for the mission which
has gathered ten times more than the amount of data originally planned.
What is most exciting about the landing is that the NEAR Shoemaker craft is
still functional, and has begun to gather information about the asteroid's
surface. The mission crew plans on keeping the craft operational for about
10 more days. Learn more about this truck-sized spacecraft, view pictures
and movies of asteroid 433 Eros and the NEAR (Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous)
mission by clicking on the headline.

CLUB BOVINE -
Mom O'Bot {Moo} (my wife) has just finished her
first Q2 map. In fact, it's her first map for any game. Everyone who's seen it
has said that it's amazing for a first map. Mom put a lot of work and attention to
detail into her creation and it shows - a superb disco floor, a 'working' diving board,
and a flushing toilet are some of the many features of the club. The download is
over 3MB due to custom textures, sounds, and sky, but it's worth every bit of every byte.
The map was designed with the ChaosDM mod in mind, but it works perfectly
well in Q2 Deathmatch.
I would have posted this earlier, but things got a bit hectic around here last week. Just after releasing the map, we had to admit Mom O'Bot to a local hospital. Tests revealed that her appendix had to be removed. The surgery went well, and after a few days of discomfort and pain, Mom is up and about with only a 20lb lifting restriction to slow her down. Thank you to all who sent 'well wishes'. Mom deeply appreciates your thoughtfulness.
After getting Mom's map, check out the Games page
for other exciting Q2 maps by myself and Rayonix{moo}. I'll have full descriptions
for all of the maps up soon. Please pardon my unfinished map pages, but all maps are
available for download and you can always view the readme file by clicking the word README
under the download link.

NEAR
-
Okay class,
raise your hand if you knew that for nearly a year there's been a spacecraft orbiting an
asteroid that's in near Earth orbit. Actually, I wasn't aware of this either until
Tim, a co-worker, brought the fact to my attention. The name of the craft is the
NEAR Shoemaker and it was launched nearly five years ago with the goal of achieving orbit
around the Asteroid 433 Eros. This is the first time this has ever been done!
Unfortunately the mission is nearly over. NEAR Shoemaker is scheduled to crash into 433 Eros on February 12th, 2001 at which point it will cease all function. Learn all about this historic mission (and why the asteroid is named 433 Eros - see the NEAR FAQ section) at the NEAR website.

Intron Substation v2.0 is up and running (obviously
since you're here) and I'm just about finished with my initial links page. I'm
currently working on the file links on the Games page, and
cleaning up the broken links in the news section. Sorry about the mess, but all will
be up and running soon. The first two Q2 maps have a working set of pics, although
only Borg Vacation has a full description. More to come soon!

A belated 'Happy New Year' to all. Welcome to the
'real' new millennium. :)
IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL MAPPERS: I have an update on r3tina and Eraser's 'The Longest
Yard for Q2.' Jerry (Eraser) e-mailed me to say that the map is temporarily not
available for download. The brothers are in the process of correcting an
unintentional violation of id's texture usage policy.
Apparently id permits the use and modification of their textures only within the context
of the game to which the textures originally belong. In other words, you are not
allowed to use Q2 textures in any game except Q2 (or a Q2 mod). Unfortunately the
original version of r3tina and Eraser's TLYQ2 has textures pulled straight out of Q3 which
id says is a big no no. The map will be up again once they've swapped the Q3
textures for either Q2 or custom textures.
You can get the scoop on what's happening over at the Engines of
Creation (January 4th news entry), or check out the discussion board thread where Paul Jaquays of id clarified the
company's usage policy to Eraser.
At 10am EST on 2000.10.2 Fileplanet indicated that TLTF and TLTF2 had logged 3024 downloads. tltf1_2.zip is the number nine most popular Q2 download on Fileplanet and is currently number 16 in the most downloaded DM maps section.
The world is not flat! (Did anyone ever really believe that?) Just as Columbus was not the first European explorer to set foot on 'The New World,' I am not the first to have brought a Q3 map backwards to Q2. I was informed separately (unbeknownst to them) by brothers Rick 'r3tina' and Jerry 'Eraser' Laman that they had done a conversion of 'The Longest Yard' back when id had released the Q3A pre-beta test. Some of you may know the map currently as Q3DM17 but it initially had a different file name/number. I can't currently remember what it was. (I knew I should have kept those pre-release files! Oh yeah, it was Q3test2)
Anyhow, they regret not getting word of their map out sooner. If they had, you'd probably be playing their map instead of mine. :)
Their version is still
a work in progress -- I think they're gonna get the armor and shards floating where they
should be since I've sent them my .map files for reference -- but you can take a look at
the amazing work they've done so far here (Sorry, this link has been taken down - see DATA LOG:
2001.1.15). Be forewarned that your Q2
experience will change once the pak file is installed. The package is more like a mod than
a standalone map.
DATA LOG: 2000.9.5
Fileplanet
shows that the Q2 DM versions of The Longest Three Feet have been
downloaded over 1,000 times! (Over 1,000 Served) Thank you Planetquake for the free
advertising. Of course, once people play the map I hope it sells itself. :)
Tebroc (Mike Corbett) dropped me an e-mail to say that Games.Velocity.Net has added my map to their rotation. Although I spend most of my Quake-time playing ChaosDM, I drop by occasionally to gib. (Yes Velocity netsters, it really is me.) Check out their servers when you get a chance.
NOTE: Games.Velocity.Net runs a server side mod that increases Railgun damage and makes the BFG a healer instead of a killer, so be forewarned. (Server side mods don't need to be downloaded or installed by clients/players. They simply -- temporarily -- change the way your game behaves while you're connected to the server.)
